This course provides students who have little or no background in the biological sciences with a basic understanding of the pathogenesis, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, procedures, treatment, and prognosis of various common and important diseases and how to identify critical points at which such pathogenesis could either be prevented or interrupted. Infectious, nutritional, metabolic, genetic, and environmental risks and the impact of such risks on various organ systems are thoroughly examined. It covers environmental epidemiology, toxicology, risk communication, water, soil, and air quality, food safety, waste disposal, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, noise pollution, occupational health, the built environment and health, injury prevention control, environmental policy and regulation, and environmental controversies in public health.
