Chemical Engineering · Faculty of Engineering · 3 credits
Structure of process design systems, degrees of freedom, information flow. Introducing standards and practices in design work. Computer-aided process and plant design programs, flow sheets for chemical processes, specifications, recycle convergence, optimization, economics. Safety and environmental control in plant design. Methodology for making rational decisions and analysis of design alternatives. Prerequisites: CHE 420. Corequisite: CHE 430. CHE Process Safety and Regulations (3.0); 3 cr. This course outlines the hazards associated with the operations of process industries. Estimates of the extent of each hazard using methods of quantitative risk assessment and the recommended justification of protection methods are performed including human behavior and human errors. The legislative framework for safety relative to the chemical and process in Lebanon, is outlined. Prerequisites: CHE 330, CHE 420.
