Reaction Engineering and Reactor Design

Chemical Engineering · Faculty of Engineering · 3 credits
Review of fundamental concepts in chemical reaction thermodynamics and kinetics and their application to the design of isothermal and non-isothermal reactors. Mass and energy balances for homogenous ideal reactors. The concepts of batch, semi-batch and continuous operations are discussed as well as reactor stability. Reactor design with emphasis on the minimization of byproducts and pollution production. The effect of heat and mass transfer on the global rate are discussed for heterogeneous reactions. Prerequisites: CHE 310, CHE 320.
