Plant Secondary Metabolites

This course surveys the field of plant natural products that are known as secondary metabolites. It covers the structure and biosynthesis of the main classes of plant secondary metabolites. In addition, the uses of secondary metabolites will be discussed. MASTER DEGRE BIO Plant Genomics and Biotechnology (3.0); 3 cr. This course explores the modern techniques employed in plant genome modification: cloning and sequencing of nucleic acids, gene isolation and mapping, genetic transformation, and germplasm collection. The relevance of plant biotechnology to the different sectors of the economy will be discussed.
