Introduction to Human Rights Standards

The primary aim of this course is to introduce students who have no knowledge of human rights to the basic concepts and principles of human rights and the theoretical debates that surround them. The course focuses on the origins and sources of human rights and how they developed throughout history to become internationally recognized standards. The course also introduces students to the importance and impact of human rights standards in domestic politics and international relations, in the maintenance of democracy and state stability in the modern world.
