LAW 264Environmental Law

This course examines Lebanese and Comparative Environmental Law and serves as a useful introduction both to the particular complexities of Environmental Law and to the skills necessary in mastering any complex area of regulation. The first part of the course considers the character of environmental disputes, the problems inherent in fashioning legal rules for their resolution, and the history of the emergence of modern comparative Environmental Law. The second part of the course reviews several specific Lebanese and comparative environmental statutes. All the statutes serve as illustrations of the different regulatory approaches to environmental problems: command and control, information disclosure, and market-based instruments. Language of Instruction: English (legal terms, however, are also given in Arabic and French).
