Description
This course provides prospective master’s students coming from other disciplines with an overview of concepts in the fields of broadcasting and digital media. Students will become acquainted with key production techniques, aesthetics, theories, and practices. COA Theories of Mass Communication (3.0); 3 cr. This course stresses theory in relation to the form, effects, production, and content of mass media. The theories covered in the course help guide students’ comprehension and inquiry into the role that mass media plays in society. Each theory covered offers a number of assumptions about the media, society, and the individual, while describing how these elements interact and shape each other. The course provides students with theoretical foundations that would guide research and comprehension of new theoretical contributions and future developments in theory. in television promotion including program format, genres, production processes, scheduling, rating systems, and program development processes. It also covers the historical and conceptual development of broadcast advertising while dealing with the implications of new media.
