Description
Theory and application of finite element methods as an analysis tool for twodimensional stress problems in engineering. Prerequisite: CEN 203 or MEN 202. THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF SCIENCE IN CIVIL ENGINEERING Program Objectives The program will prepare students to: a. Support our students in acquiring theoretical and applied knowledge in their field of specialization. b. Develop their abilities to grow intellectually and professionally, be independent thinkers, and exercise leadership roles in society. c. Prepare them for longer term academic advancement through quality research and scholarly activities. Admission Requirements Admission to the MS in Civil Engineering program is subject to the University graduate admission requirements, as stated in this Catalog under “Graduate Admission.” In addition, the following requirements are to be met: • Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized university (holders of BS degrees in Civil Engineering will have to take a set of remedial courses to be specified on a case-by-case basis in order to meet the total number of credits required); • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 minimum (or its equivalent from a recognized faculty of engineering); • GRE Scores; and • Approval of the Faculty Graduate Committee. MASTER DEGRE MS CEN Furthermore, applicants should be able to demonstrate proficiency in the English language. All English requirements, as stated in this Catalog under “Graduate Admission,” are to be fulfilled. Graduation Requirements The program leads to the degree of Master of Science in Civil Engineering awarded once the following requirements are met: • The candidate must complete a total of 30 credits with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0. The minimum passing grade of a graduate course is “C.” Students in graduate studies are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in all courses taken for graduate programs with no more than 2 Cs per program. Failed courses may be repeated once, provided that the grade on the failed course is equal to “D” or higher. Failing a course with an “F” grade means an automatic exclusion from the program; • Holders of a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (5-year program leading to the degree of BE) from a recognized university may apply to transfer a maximum of 18 credits from their undergraduate upper level major elective course
