Afro-Cuban Music and Percussion

The course explores 254 *Not offered at the present time the history of various styles of Afro-Cuban Music and Percussion and its dual relation to the jazz language.The percussion instruments are all studied and explored in a group setting. Afro-Cuban religious ceremonial rhythms, in addition to drum set applications, are also covered. The course also focuses in depth upon the analysis and knowledge of the inner workings of clove and basic techniques on the major battery of Afro-Cuban percussions (e.g., congas, bongo, timbales, etc.) in addition to minor battery (e.g., maracas, guiro, shakers, cowbells, etc.).
