DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC Senior Lecturer: Lawoun, Dolcy THE DEGREE OF BACHELOR OF ARTS IN MUSIC AND MUSICOLOGY MUSICOLOGY Mission The Department of Music and Musicology at NDU aims to prepare students to obtain undergraduate and graduate degrees in Music. It offers a comprehensive quality education that fosters excellence in scholarship and the opportunity to develop competence and expertise in the areas of music, history, theory, analysis, and composition. Students will acquire additional skills such as critical thinking, performance, interpretation, improvisation, and creativity. Its curriculum follows the American model of liberal arts education. DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC AND MUSICOLOGY Program Educational Objectives MUSIC AND MUSICOLOGY MUSICOLOGY MUSIC AND MUSICOLOGY ARABIC MUSICOLOGY MUSIC AND MUSICOLOGY MUSIC EDUCATION MUSIC AND MUSICOLOGY - BA DEGREE MUSIMEDIALOGY MUSIC AND MUSICOLOGY JAZZ MUSIC MUSIC MA DEGREE The objectives of the BA in Music and Musicology program are tailored to the needs of students who wish to have a successful career in the music industry, in particular to: • Understand the historical musical styles, compositional techniques, and performance practices of various style periods; • Recognize the scales and modes of the music literature; • Understand the language of different instruments of the orchestra; • Implement original musical ideas to imagination; and • Use new technologies when writing music. Learning Outcomes Upon graduation with a BA in Music and Musicology, students will: • Demonstrate the ability to prepare, compose, and arrange both classical and jazz music; • Perform a recital by applying specialized skills and techniques of music performance on each student’s major instrument or voice; • Relate music to different sisters disciplines; • Demonstrate strong skills in improvisation, performance of various styles of jazz, and a basic knowledge of jazz history; and • Conclude using critical thinking on findings in musicology. Admission Requirements Prior to admission, applicants will be subject to a practical evaluation, which covers instrument, voice, and musical background. Students with no piano background will have to take Applied Instrumental and Vocal Piano MUS 211
Prerequisites
