This class is an intensive management and production course in multimediajournalism. Students receive hands-on, intensive training in specific techniques of online user-driven storyproduction, including business and newsroom management. This course also focuses on the role ofentrepreneurship and innovation for the future of journalism and on the creation of news and informationenterprises and initiatives for the digital media ecosystem. The class will study the impact of digital and emergingtechnologies on the news industry, in terms of content creation, distribution, marketing, revenue models, andsustainability. Through case studies and testimonials of guest speakers with firsthand experience as mediaentrepreneurs, students will dissect journalistic initiatives based on innovative uses of digital technologies. At theend of the course, students pitch their ideas for media businesses and products to local entrepreneurs. Prerequisite(s): JSC220 News Writing and Reporting and JSC226 Multimedia Journalism Basics.
