MEE 702Passive Building Design

This course centers on issues surrounding the integration of Sustainable and Passive Design principles, into conceptual and practical Building design. Topics will include: solar geometry, climate/regional limitations, natural lighting, passive design and sustainability initiatives, natural ventilation and infiltration, insulating and Energy Storing Material, Bioclimatic concept and design. Case studies will be used as a vehicle to discuss the success/failure of ideas and their physical applications. The course will focus on the use Energy Auditing as a means to both design and evaluate the energy performance of buildings. [3-0, 3 cr.]
