INA 814JTp. Pol. Int:Lb. Pol. & Sy. Refug. Cr
Political & International Studies · 3 credits
Description
The Syrian refugee crisis presents unprecedented and multifaceted challenges to neighboring states. Lebanon has come to host more than one million Syrian refugees that have constituted more than 20% of its own population. The country’s fragile sectarian composition and politically antagonistic environment helped the least to accommodate the refugee crisis. Academic and policy interests to acquire understanding of the Lebanese political dynamic are of particular importance in order to diffuse tensions and devise appropriate response and hosting strategies. This intensive summer seminar provides a forum for students and experts to examine and debate contemporary politics of Lebanese consociational politics, investigate refugee impacts, and assess viable hosting strategies. This should inform refugee response policies in similar political settings.[3-0, 3 cr.]
