Description
This course surveys Modern and contemporary artistic production in Lebanon from the turn of the 20th century until today. It investigates the development of art in Lebanon amongst changing cultural, social, and political contexts. Special attention will be given to historical developments that are relevant to practices in the region, including notions of identity and the problematic relationship between modernity and local traditions. Course assignments will include research projects, as well as visits to local exhibitions and studios to familiarize students with Lebanon’s contemporary art scene. prerequisite ENG102
