FAS 380DTopics: Surface Manipulation and Material Innovation

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of textile surfaces, beginning with an in-depth study of fabric structures, compositions, and their inherent material properties. Building upon this foundation, students will engage in hands-on experimentation with a wide range of surface treatments and fabric manipulation techniques. Emphasis is placed on the interplay between technical proficiency and creative inquiry, guiding students from material analysis to advanced surface transformation. Over the semester, each student will identify and develop a personal direction, pursuing one technique or concept in depth to produce a coherent series of experimental samples and a final piece that reflects a mature and innovative understanding of surface design within wearable contexts.[2-2, 3 cr.] Prerequisite: FAS336 Passing Grade [C-]
