This interdisciplinary course studies articulations of dissent through a variety of theories, methods, and practice from communication and media studies, literature, critical cultural studies, linguistics, and social and political thought. Focusing on local, regional, and transnational analysis, this course explores concepts, historiographies, and knowledge production of different forms of dissent, activism, and protest across various manifestations of media and arts, including, but not restricted to, prose, poetry, music, video, broadcast, theatre, performance, social media, and advertisement.
