Description
This course follows architectural developments in the Middle East from the end of the 19th century to the present. The survey covers the colonial period and the process of westernization in Middle Eastern countries, as well as the formation of National schools of architecture and the ensuing spread of Modernism. The problematic relationship between modernity and local traditions will be examined, in addition to the particular ‘postmodern’ reactions that followed.
