Highly recommended. Great professor. Also nice with grades and his classes are quite fun. He is truly an expert on the topic and is also a great human being. He assigns lots of readings but you could skip a significant amount if you have a background in Islam and pay attention in class. In terms of tangible workload expect at least one paper or something similar; in the last two courses I took with him we had two take-home exams rather than papers but another class I took before those courses had 3 papers and a midterm and a final but it seems he's abandoned those requirements. Regardless, his class is worth it if you're interested in learning more about Islam/Islamic history.
Interesting course, amazing instructor. You don’t have to put much effort throughout the semester and before exams just read the material or get a general idea of it from online sources with summary cause the texts tend to be a little long
