SART 201Painting I

This course builds on the drawing skills acquired in the previous course and proposes the practice of painting as an investigative, expressive and conceptual tool. The introduction of color and an in-depth study of painting materials and techniques allow students to explore the stages of constructing a painting. Students engage with fundamental considerations of material surface, pictorial composition and subject matter considering examples taken from both historical and contemporary sources. Prerequisite. SART 200 or consent of the instructor. Annually.
