Design of Thermal Systems

The course seeks to develop in students the ability to integrate rate mechanisms (i.e., heat transfer and fluid dynamics) into thermodynamic system modeling, and analyses and provides design opportunities through open-ended problems with explicit considerations of engineering economics, optimization, environmental impact, ethical concerns, manufacturability and sustainability. Teamwork experience and communication skills are highly stressed. Students will gain hands-on experience with the tools of investigation used for thermal and fluid systems and learn how to approach and solve problems typically encountered in engineering experimental work.
