Currell is probably ,my favorite prof at AUB. His classes are always interesting, and this one is no different. The classes for this course are discussion-based, so it's always essential to do the readings in order to participate. The exams are also very manageable. Focus on the explanation in class, do the readings, and you'll be more than fine. Grades are also not hard to get.
David gives this course every Spring semester and the format is almost the same. We had 4 books to read (they change each semester). There is a written midterm after the first two books and it’s usually a mixture of mcq, essay, and short answer-questions. For the final, you have 3 options, either a paper, play, or exam. For the play, you would have to rehearse an act from one of the books and demonstrate it in front of an audience. You also have short response papers throughout. It’s a lovely course and the professor is an understanding person and fair grader.
He is a little bit boring and repetitive but you can get high 80s if you read the books rather than the sparknotes and actually write what he says in class, literally listen to every single word he says and what he emphasizes because usually the exams come as 2 quotes and a short essay about the books that you'd be reading w he usually stresses on the most important scenes and quotes, you need to attend and pay attention to that. Also, to be more prepared for the discussions in class, read the sparknotes and before the exam concentrate on the actual book and the things that he stressed on, that'd be the most efficient way to do it
If you like Shakespeare, you'll have fun. Currell's classes are discussion-based,and you have 2 quizzes and a final paper. His quizzes include 5 multiple choice questions, 5 quotations ( you need to know which play they came from and why they are important) and a short answer question.
Nassar isnt bad; As long as you take notes and kind of memorize them for your midterm, your good to go with Nassar. He does give high grades, and honestly it's an easy 80. But if you want to enjoy the course/ are an english major, i'd suggest you wait and take it with Currel

He's great, you might get bored in class if you are not completely interested. Take notes to everything he says. I took engl 214 with him, but he follows the same methods. I think it's great to take at least one class with him. He is very knowledgeable and sweet. For any Shakespeare class sparknotes won't do, you need to read the actual thing. They might help but you definitely need to read the books.
