Theories and History of the State

Description
The aim of the course is to explore “the state” as a political construct and to provide a comparative survey of experiences of state-building in the Middle East (including Lebanon). Topics covered include the history of state formation, state-society relations, authoritarianism and democratization, the impact of globalization on the state, and related issues.
