It's an interesting course if you like music in general. The first part is about jazz history and the first quiz is just memorizing the handout he gives you.
The second main part of the course is "listening to jazz". We listen to different jazz pieces in class and the teacher tells you about the different styles, emotions, instruments, musicians...
In the 3 other quizes, he basically gives you the song beforehand and you have to analyze it during the quiz (so it's basically also kind of memorization). He almost also tells you what to write so don't worry. There's no final.
Considering assignments, he always tells us to complete stuff and email it to him, but he never replied back so I don't think he ever sees them.
Just show him that you care about the course and high 90s are easily attainable. Don't take the course if you have no interest in music and just want an "easy" elective however.
It's not an easy course but if you get the base you’re on the right track, also you have to like music and listening to jazz!!
It’s a fair course. Its name "Listening to Jazz" is a bit deceptive. It's not that easy. It’s heavy work and the material is quite difficult . But if you put enough effort you get high grades easily..
